Yes, I have been looking at the link and the kernel, but there are

card, are there other packages needed beyond the drivers in the kernel?
What has to be done, if anything, with regard to hotplug?

For my linksys WPC55AG cardbus card, all that is needed outside of the LFS SVN version I run (of course with cardbus support in the kernel) is the driver for the card (this one happens to be Atheros, so madwifi from madwifi.org works great and is just a make && make install) and then wireless_tools. After a modprobe and a few commands from wireless_tools, it is up and running.

That is just my experience though. I never could get the netgear or d-link cardbus cards I have to work, but I just gave them away and got the more expensive card which works with linux drivers.
