Hello, I know that XGL is not in the book right now, but I would like to post this anyway.
Some time ago I've upgraded X to version 7.2. I discovered that there are still some problems using beryl and Xorg 7.2 (white screens). (according to the xorg developers it's a problem with beryl) See: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8991 Today I went back to Xorg 7.1, with beryl-0.1.4, and everything works again. I know this is not a BLFS issue, but I would like to post it anyway. In case anyone wants to upgrade: you'll be warned.
