Just installed sawfish-1.9.1. Not very nice, getting a black screen without anything on it.
On the contrary, openbox comes, at least, with a menu. Including a line with "xterm &" in .xinitrc, one can at least run sawfish-config, links graphical (links -g) or other software. A panel will add much functionality for both. Suggested in Openbox page of BLFS, one have the suggestion of lxpanel, but the instability when closing firefox, after many downloads (this part pointed by Andy) is better handled by lxsession (which automatically reloads it).
