There's something similar in nettle, which jumped out at me: chmod -v 755 /usr/lib/libhogweed.so.2.3 /usr/lib/libnettle.so.4.5 I don't think there's any harm in the execute bit being set on libraries, but it doesn't do anything useful, so I think you're better off omitting it and save yourself some keystrokes :) Well, I say that, assuming that libxpcom.so is just like any other library; maybe the Mozilla devs do something 'weird' that requires it, though I can't even imagine what that might be.
