Hello, Long time no write (at least not in this way).
I had a need to cool off for some time and take a break from everything and everyone related to this project. Now that my batteries are (mostly) fully recharged, I was thinking to start working on BLFS systemd again. It has gotten a little rusty since my last update. Note that I'm not yet ready to get to work because there are some IRL issues happening that are unavoidable, but I'll get to it as soon as possible (maybe even later this month). It will take me a long time to get everything up to date once again, but I think I'll make it. Any help is welcome. Now, to make my life easier a bit, I decided to drop some stuff. That includes, but not limited to the entire KDE4 stack. KDE4 is at its end, all work is focused on Qt5 based Libraries/Workspaces/Applications. I know it will be a drawback that some apps have not been ported to the new platform (or have been ported but have no release yet), but that's a risk I'm going to take. I have moved my machine to the KDE Frameworks 5/KDE Plasma 5 and I don't want to install anything related to KDE4 anymore as I don't use it. If anyone cares about it you're welcome to maintain it yourself (I'll accept any patches or git pull requests). Note however that the last KDE 4 Platform/Workspaces release will happen in August and after that it'll receive no updates from upstream. Qt 4.8.7 is the last Qt4 release comming from The Qt Company. That said, I wouldn't like to maintain software abandoned upstream in case of newer toolkit/platform. In a similar situation like KDE4 is LXDE. Mostly all effort has been moved onto the LXQt Desktop. I'll be looking forward to replace LXDE with LXQt, as there's already one lightweight GTK+ environment, but not a Qt based one. Same as with KDE4, if anyone cares about it and wants to keep it, let me know. Last, but not the least, I may even end up dismantling most, if not of all, of GNOME Desktop. I don't use it on my machines, but I build it from time to time to check up on the Wayland progress, as I'm quite interested in that technology. Other than that, I use few apps only. I don't think I'm going to dismantle most of the desktop anyways, but some packages that are not strictly required, yet are present in BLFS systemd (tracker, telepathy stuff, some apps, etc). I'll let you know about the details about this when the time comes. -- Note: My last name is not Krejzi.
