This is not relevant to 7.9, but I recall that Bruce said he hopes
to move the book to kf5 (only, if I understood correctly) after
that. While updating my own scripts, and trying to work out whether
the few non-book kde apps I have any care about have been merged
into the master branch or will still need to use git from their
frameworks branches, I eventually got lucky in my google-foo.
The current status of the various parts of kde is documented at
http://developer.kde.org/~cfeck/portingstatus.html
and that appears to get updated at 04:30 UTC on Saturdays.
Probably not useful in a text browser (even with links -g there are
no colours), but in a graphical browser it shows red, yellow, green
in the second column - and if you mouse over, there is a comment -
red entries are not ported to kf5, yellow are still being ported
and the next column for these shows the branch for kf5 (for yellow
and green in the previous column).
After that are columns to show whether it uses kdelibs4support (I
suppose that maybe covers all the portingAids/ packages), whether
application.desktop files use the org.kde schema, whether
documentation has been updated to docbook-4.5, whether it has a
feature_summary : for the short term, I think yellow or red in those
last 4 columns is not a problem for us.
Thank you for finding that page. The way I interpret the color coding is
that yellow means there is no kf5 tarball but it does build from the
latest in git. Red means that there is no kf5 version in git yet.
I don't think the kdelibs4support support is really a deal breaker. The
apps should work with it.
The apps that I think will prevent us from removing kde4 completely are
k3b and amarok -- both in multimedia. Hopefully they will be ported by
next August as that is when we need to make a package freeze for BLFS 7.10.
Some of the apps not ported yet are not really important. For example
kfloppy and kdf do not seem to be critical. There are several apps that I
have no idea about what they do.
