I've been compiling some new versions of Gnome 2.10 packages and a few of them are looking for hal and dbus. I can turn off hal in most cases, but gnome-volume-manager appears to require hal.
I have found and compiled hal and dbus, but documentation on how to configure them seems to be very sparse.
