Obviously I'm trying to get Firefox and Thunderbird running. I'm using
Xorg and fluxbox. Each application throws a similar message when I try
to start it using xterm:
nsExtensionManager::disableObsoleteExtensions -failure, catching
extension so finalize window can close
/usr/lib/{thunderbird,firefox}-1.0/run-mozilla.sh: line 159: [different
numbers] Segmentation Fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
This was reported as a bug at ArchLinux here:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/?do=details&id=2367&area=history#tabs
But there's a bunch of prattle, which may or may not be relevant, about
processors and motherboards. It doesn't look like anyone "official" has
taken notice of it.
Number one I don't know how to track down segmentations faults. The
only thing that I can say here is that both applications built and
installed without errors. Just to see if I could, since BLFS 6.0
doesn't indicate that X is a required dependency for either application,
I tried to start Thunderbird from my text terminal. It didn't open.
Don't know if that's relevant or whether I have to be running X in the
first place.
One thing I did discover. In each of './configure --help' there is an
option "--with-x." The only explanation is "use with X windows
system." There is also nothing about this at the mozilla.org build
page. This option is not indicated in BLFS 6.0 for any of mozilla,
thunderbird or firefox.
Questions:
1. Should I compile '--with-x' included?
2. Is there some kind of configuration work in Xorg that I need to do?
If so, what?
3. If neither of these apps needs x-windows, is there something
conflicting with a window start-up. How can I fix it?
4. If the situation is in fact caused by my processor or mother board
(AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ and ASUS A7N8X-E, respectively) are there any
optimization flags that I should run?
I use the Package-Users management system designed by Matthias Benkmann,
but I can't find any reason that the different types of ownerships are
interfering.
Thanks,
Dan
