 I very much doubt it.  Recently I got sound and video working, which
prompted me to build a lot more for my desktop.  There are huge chunks
of blfs that I don't build (e.g. cups, some of the sound and video libs,
server stuff), but I worked out where I think the gnome stuff fits in.
Attached is the order I used for my current build, including comments
for where I think the missing gnome stuff belongs (NB that is gnome-2.8,
2.10 will be different) - I'm thinking about trying a fuller gnome
desktop.  AFAIK, I have adequate functionality from everything I build.

 As you get used to blfs, you'll find that you don't like some of the
alternatives and that some of the optional dependencies don't give you
any benefits (that is, it's a personal choice on what to include).  This
is good, it allows you to make the build more manageable.
