For various reasons, I have installed RPM 4.4.2 on my system (lfs-6.0 (from CD) and blfs 6.0/kde), and run into a bit of a problem. This is my first attempt to get RPM working with lfs/blfs, so I don't know if anyone else has run into this or not. It appears, after building the RPM database, that RPM is not recognizing the .so symlinks as installed programs...so, as far as RPM is concerned, every packages I could attempt to install has practically *no* dependent programs in place.

Does anyone know of a way to tell RPM that the symlinks are real, or some other way of completing the database? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to set rpm to use the old style of dependancy tracking. This can be set in your .toprc file. I am at work now so I cant tell you the exact line but I will when I get home.
