I hope you are a real human and not an "expert system"

You will need a X environment, not only the server, because without you
will not be able to compile a single program for X, At least if you
don't know socket programming and really much of the X-protocoll :-)

Most window managers depend not only on X-libs but also on other
"helper" libs (KDE needs QT and gnome needs ... well gnome)
