I have a dhcp enabled system, which occasionely doesn't have the network
cable plugged in. ( silly, but true )
At boot time, the dhcp request halts the system for several seconds,
which is gradually getting annoying.
Can I remove the dhcp request from the boot process to some other
process, which starts AFTER a prompt has been offered, but BEFORE
somebody has actually logged in?
Or, remove several seconds of the imposed delay? (I'd rather have the first)
Or, AFTER the boot process, and WHEN somebody logs in, but without
slowing down the prompt so that nobody really notices.
I intend to install a wireless card one day, which theoretically removes
the missing cable issue, but since it is going to become a box that has
to move around, I can't have the delay in the boot process pissing off
the people that are going to use it.
