Did you run vmware-config.pl after booting with your new kernel?
If not, that's most likely the reason as you need vmware modules matching your running kernel.

If the vmware-config.pl script can't find the headers for your kernel, then install this package:
http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/vmware-any-any-update104.tar.gz
and it should work fine ;)
