Hi,
you suffer from session restoration, have a look at your gnome session
configuration, there should be something like "emty session, last
session, saved session". May be you want to start with an empty session.

... hm I just looked at my gnome-2.10.x
in the menu line [Desktop][Preferences][Sessions] there I found the
config ...
