The base LFS system is missing a lot of things that you might find
essential. The trick is to build some things from the BLFS book before
you boot up. For me, the essentials are a dhcp client, wget, a text
browser and gpm.

You'll probably find some other things you want to add. The base LFS
system is pretty basic.
