I have compiled most of gnome-2.18 and configured it accordingly to the svn-book.
when I start x there is a short panel at the top with no buttons at all. Cursor movements are twice as fast as usual and acceleration it too high. A window pops up saying: can't load default theme, either metacity not installed or gconf misconfigured. metacity is installed. after adding menus to the panel and logging out and in again the empty panel is shown again and the warning pops up again. gconf is installed as described in the book but with --sysconfig-dir=/etc/gnome Do I have to recompile everything or does anybody have clues to lead me on?
