Hallo Simon,

exactly this was the case ! thanks a lot for the hint. After building the
kernel with inotify, hal started.

However: I did not find any comments neither in the BLFS-book nor in the
hal "readme" file telling me that inotify needs to be checked in ".config"
when building the kernel, if hal is to be included. It was also a kind of
luck, that I got the "Unable to initialize inotify:" message. This did not
happen regulary.
In short: I would propose to put a note in the readme file of hal, telling
that the kernel has to be configured accordingly.
By the way, it seems to me, that some notes about needed functions in the
kernel should be included for such pakets that need it. I presume that "hal"
is not the only issue asking for a special feature, and actually, nobody is
telling you ( in the book ) how to configure the kernel. Or am I wrong ? I
would like to get your opinions.
