But going to Hal 0.5.13 seems to work. Console-Kit looks like it disappeared (or it is not on the freedesktop site), but PolicyKit looked OK. So maybe it's time to upgrade the book. Having absolutely no clue about what Hal does, I can't help tweak the instructions.
