Hey I fixed this I just created the skel directory and the bash startup files and then created the user with useradd -m and it worked when I logged in.
Now the only problem I have left is about the below * (EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory It looks like your kernel is missing "i915" DRM module or "kernel mode* * setting (KMS)" is not enabled in the kernel. Please check "Xorg Intel Driver" instructions page to see which kernel options should be enabled or you won't be able to use gnome shell at all. * I tried e at the grub menu and added the option i915.modeset=1 as I had googled but I still dont get the gnome 3 sheel I get the fallback version still I could find the kms instructions other than this.* *Please help thanks a lot for all your help and patience On Wed, Oct 24, 2012 at 9:43 AM, Armin K. <kre...@email.com> wrote: > On 10/23/2012 11:32 PM, James Pinto wrote: > > > > So sorry for the multiple posts > > The gdm greeter screen shows now but I get an ICEAuthority error on > > login to a user, also the root user iss not showing up in the list of > > users(is this intentional or a security feature, how can I show this) > > > > I ran the command correctly and I got the following output > > root [ /etc/pam.d ]# ls -l /etc/pam.d/gdm* > > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 477 Oct 24 08:01 /etc/pam.d/gdm > > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 444 Oct 24 08:01 /etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin > > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 481 Oct 24 08:01 /etc/pam.d/gdm-fingerprint > > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 495 Oct 24 08:01 /etc/pam.d/gdm-password > > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 502 Oct 24 08:01 /etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard > > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 344 Oct 24 08:01 /etc/pam.d/gdm-welcome > > > > Regards > > -- > > James Earnest Pinto > > I had hard time choosing which post should I reply to.
