Okay. This matter is fixed as far as I am concerned. VLC-2.0.5 is installed and working with libdvbpsi also installed. My thanks go to all who commented and helped me. First, I restored from a backup and went fresh at VLC installing libdvbpsi-0.2.2 from the outset. Before, I had installed the new version, uninstalled it, and then tried v0.2.2. Maybe that mattered for both versions to bust the VLC build. Anyway, libdvbpsi is a package that is external to the book, but I recommend a parenthetical comment following its link in the book about this version business vis-a-vis VLC. Second, I used Armin's sed after the patch and before the bootstrap commands in the book. The bootstrap command worked for a longer time, produced a lot more output, and ended with a success message. IMO, that sed should go into the book until the VLC stuff is fixed. A.Radley
