yes now repeaed this

AND did this to

the same problem a usb stick has no entry in /dev
pluggging in the stick genertates line such as

SD S:0:0:0 [sdc] No cache mode page

lsusb shows the device to be recognised
but ls /dev/ shows no /dev/sdc
( only fixed disks are shown )

I have seen this behaviour consistently with eudev 204/206 or their systemd
analogs.

I am stuck rignt now as usb usage is mandatory for a modern computer I tried
udev-182 way back but it did not compile thats why I tried eudev which was
'modern'

The problem iappears to be with 'modern' udev ( now systemd ) and the
redhat/fedora baggage it carries systemd has even renamed stuff in
/proc/net/nev

--( no longer are eth0, eth1 etc available now it some funky convoluted name
almost impossible to decipher, )

--no longer can you parse /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog there is a
journal with a quite impossible name to decipher

I am beginning to wonder if devfs (especially the rewritten version in the mid
noughties ) should not be dusted off and brought up to
date (Linus are you listening ! ) Other operating sysems have been using
inkernel devfs just fine .
