I don't see why not, but I'm not sure it will do any good. The only other things I know about that affect time are the hwclock at boot time, the TZ environment variable, and /etc/localtime. Have your tried 'TZ=GMT date' ? What about: hwclock --show hwclock --show --utc hwclock --show --localtime Also, check the logs to see if ntpd has anything to say there.
