Using: $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section "ServerFlags" Option "AutoAddDevices" "false" EndSection ..forces xorg to use the (old) standard keyboard/mouse drivers and makes things work. 'Doesn't explain why the 32-bit evdev driver works and the 64-bit one doesn't though.
