Hi,
first of all, thank you very much for the excellent work to Armin, Bruce and
all the other developers and editors. We are now installing a new BLFS System
on the Basis of this last book ( after installing LFS ) and perhaps we can
contribute a little with our experiences.
1.) xdg-utils-1.1.0-rc2 : I could'nt build this version. Compilation error
containing "www.oasis-open", very similar to the one I include later.
xdg-utils-1.1.0-rc1, which has no dependencies, builds withouth problems
2.) I found no way to build giflib-5.0.5 or giflib-5.1.0. The compilation
breaks down with the error
quote
------------------
.....
Making all in doc
make[2]: Entering directory '/sources_KDE/giflib-5.1.0/doc'
xmlto xhtml-nochunks gif2rgb.xml
xmlto xhtml-nochunks gifbuild.xml
xmlto: /sources_KDE/giflib-5.1.0/doc/gifbuild.xml does not validate
(status 3)
xmlto: Fix document syntax or use --skip-validation option
I/O error : Attempt to load network entity
http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd
......

However, giflib-4.1.6 builds without problems and is also accepted by
Kdelibs-4.13.2. It seems to me, that the 5.x versions of giflib are actually
not compatible with the BLFS-Version 2014-08-01
3.) giflib is mentioned in the Kdelibs page as "recommended", but cmake on
Kdelibs delivers a "required" statement. I thing it would be better to put
giflib also under required in the Kdelibs page. I know that "recommended"
dependencies are today more or less "required" ones, but the compilation of
Kdelibs without Upower or Udisks as an example is still possible. Both are
recommended dependencies.
No problems at all, but perhaps some hints to improve a little the book ?
Regards,
Edgar
