There really isn't an 'upstream' version of lsb-release, but only a reference implementation. Each distro then implements their own.

We just use the reference release. It is, after all, only a fairly short shell script. Looking at the code, there are some specifics looking for Debian or RedHat specific stuff. Although I can see that changing to meet those distros needs, I don't see where it would apply to LFS.

You don't say where this '"new" LSB site' site is located.
