That sounds cool, so I tried upgrading to xorg-1.16 but I couldn't get it to
run rootless on my system. I got:

[ 1573.037] (EE) systemd-logind: TakeControl failed: Rejected send
message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.9" (uid=1000
pid=7162 comm="/usr/libexec/Xorg.bin :0 -auth /home/hazel/.server")
interface="org.freedesktop.login1.Session" member="TakeControl" error
name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.login1"
(uid=0 pid=143 comm="/lib/systemd/systemd-logind ")

followed by:

[ 1573.126] (EE) xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or
directory).

It worked with sudo startx but that's not something I'd want to do on a regular
basis. I think, after reading the SVN, that to make it work properly I'd have
to rebuild systemd and that's not a road I want to go down either (quite apart
from anything else, my systemd version (208) is too old for your compatibility
patches). So I'm back with xorg 1.15.

It's a bit inconvenient having to authenticate before closing down but I can
put up with that now that I know why it behaves the way it does. And I gather
that the new LFS version with xorg 1.16 will become stable soon anyway.

Thanks to all of you for your help.
