Shameless plug alert! I've been using my custom init bsd scripts for over a 
year now as an alternative to sysvinit, systemd or upstart. If you're 
interested you can find them at https://github.com/williex/init.bsd




Installation is a simple as skipping chapter 7.1 - 7.7 and installing the 
scripts in /etc.
