In response to my letter containing --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >After many attempts, I found that BLFS-9.0 mentioned to 'make > install-elogind' whereas that particular command was missing in BLFS-9.1 > Book. I copied BLFS script from BLFS-9.0. After executing > > make install-elogind > > both Docker and Jellyfin started working all right. > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- your response was: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >The version of elogind which was in the 9.1 book used meson with >ninja, and therefore the book uses 'ninja install' for the install >phase. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found that BLFS-9.0 uses elogind-241.3 and BLFS-9.1 uses elogind-243.4 which I am sorry I did not notice. However, except for instruction to 'make install-elogind' the instructions are similar. Till I used 'make install-elogind', Docker refused to load. I sgree that Docker and Jellyfin are not normally used by LFS enthusiasts.
Your reply has also mentioned: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >The normal use of elogind in the sysv book is for a desktop system >running Xorg: build elogind, xorg libs etc, glib2, ... JS60, polkit, >xorg-server, the rest of xorg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps, I would not have followed this order, as I had problem with JS60 as I had mentioned in another message. You have also mentioned: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >I suspect you either missed soemthing in the original >elogind build, or perhaps tried to do everything in chroot ? >Or perhaps you had needed to reconfigure the kernel for elogind, but >were still using the previous kernel when things initially did not >work ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am to state that I rebuilt elogind-243.4 and just added 'make install-elogind' after copying BLFS script. Docker started working immediately. Also, I built as user lfs and not in chroot, if I remeber correctly. Also, I did not reconfigure Linux kernel. I just rechecked as per the Book. Talking about chrooting, will it be too much if I request that a few lines can be added in the Book on how to start using as user lfs? I struggled quite a lot before I could make use of user to build packages. The paragraphs containg /etc/skel and 'useradd' are sketcy unlike other parts which are simple to follow.
