Starting a fresh sub-thread to reply to this, because we were floundering. I've just hit this, and apart from Christopher's post google found https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/issues/7929 Seems to be a problem with meson-0.56.0, apparently will be fixed with 0.56.1 by https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/commit/2b923f532c3e16687910fecb09cedb80a76597cf.diff but that didn't make any difference for me. I then tried Christopher's change to -Dsysprof=disabled and libsoup built. I agree with him that it shows no signs of downloading anything for sysprof.
