Over time, things change and to look at how the change happened might mean looking at changes to that file in svn. For example, in 9.0 the text was very different. The nss tarballs have had some changes in how they are organized/constructed since that time. > Whereas in 10.0 - > http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/10.0/postlfs/nss.html - we find : > > To run the tests, execute the following commands: > > cd tests && > HOST=localhost DOMSUF=localdomain ./all.sh && > cd ../ > Yes. What is in 9.1 may or may not be correct for that old version of nss (my gut feeling is that I was probably mistaken when I added it). Since then, someone (Xi, I think) looked deeper and found out how to run the tests. > The previous "make BUILD_OPT=1 . . . command sequence reads the same for > both 9.1 and 10.0. > The details of building the package did not change. > Hence why the test in 10.0 ? > But our understanding of what was going on did change - call it continuous improvement. > The point is that I had that test fail on me. I'm hopeful that Doug's reply set you on the right course. But I'll mention that I only run the nss tests if I'm updating nss in the book. Like many packages, the tests are more for the package developers than for users. Maybe I should also mention that nss is one of those packages where updating to a new release is almost always a good idea. I see that in our Errata we currently mention updating to 3.58 or later (current in the svn book is 3.59). On my current/old-but-maintained systems I update nss (and nspr, if new release), and ca-certificates when I update to a newer firefox (approx every 6 weeks). ĸen -- To say that it (his hair) was black and bound up in a ponytail is to miss the opportunity of using the term 'elephantine'.
