David,

Thanks for the research, but, the way things have gone the last 3 days,
I decided it would be safer to just re-create the message rules manually.

I mentioned earlier that I was having trouble doing them with JFW 7.0
and IE 7, but part of the earlier problem might have that I didn't have OE
configured to work best with JAWS. I gave it another try this afternoon and
it worked. Part of my earlier problem was that the instructions on the
JAWS-users page was "Tab over to New and press the space bar." I wasn't
finding "New" but figured that maybe you just proceeded to the next step
since this was the first rule created and the instructions worked fine after
I got that through my thick skull. I'm just a very literal person!

I'm not positive, but I think you might want to look at the last bit of
the instructions beginning with

"
enter on the OK button Then on close, tab to OK and enter." since I didn't
find this part as described, but I got the job done.

I'm going to take a very long break and see what's new with JAWS 8 and
if I can get the darned Control-F to work in IE 7. It would be a lot easier
if DEC-Talk Access worked with all this new stuff, but I'm not having any
luck so far.

Margaret

Near as I can figure miss Margaret if you run a restore on your Outlook
Express identities that should return all of your message rules and account
settings back to where they were when the backup was performed. It will
probably restore any and all messages that were also included in the backup
file. In a nutshell if it was there and backed up then it should be restored
as well. HTH

David,

I have E-Backup reinstalled now and the scripts, but I hadn't done
anything with the program when it was on the hard drive for ages other than
let it do its back up thing.

I don't want to mess up and lose all the old messages that were on the
old hard drive and that my tech was able to put on the new drive or the new
ones that have been added and I put in the right folders using OE's Advanced
find.

If I hit enter on the file E-Backup created on the old drive, is there a
way of copying the message rules and pasting them on the present identity?
The program isn't intuitive and even though I have a license, the company is
no longer supporting the program.

    Thanks,

Margaret

Go ahead and install e-backup then reload the file it created.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Recreating OE Message Rules with E-Backup?

Hi All,

I'm trying to get things back the way they were before my tech had to
wipe out my old XP Home hard drive and he installed a new hard drive and a
"fresh" version of XP. I had been running OE 6 and IE 6. He was able to
retain all my previous messages and the folders, but he installed IE 7 and
I've had to re-do my Outlook Express settings. Unfortunately, my OE
message rules and signatures will have to be recreated.

I had E-Backup on the old hard drive and it backed up OE before the
machine went to the shop to be fixed and I still have the file it created.
I will have to reinstall E-Backup and the JAWS scripts. I had a licensed
copy of E-Backup, which doesn't do me any good any more since the company is
no longer supporting the program, but I THINK the version I had was slightly
more recent than the one I found on the JAWS-users home page.

If I reinstall it and the scripts, would it save me any work in
recreating my message rules and signatures or would it just be easier to
just create them again from scratch? I started from scratch using JAWS 7.0
since I was somewhat familiar with it and 7.1 did not work as well with OE.
JAWS 8.x is installed now, but it is totally new to me as is IE 7 and I keep
running into more surprises of things that have to be recreated and my
patience is wearing thin.

    Thank you,

Margaret
