Well there is QWS you can use to sequence the midi file and then import all of the tracks to sonar and use JSonar, sfz and some really good sound fonts to make it sound good!
SA&G : For your information, MIDI stands for "MULTIPLE INSTRUMENT DIGITAL : INTERFACE" and that is exactly what it means. If you already know : this, : please consider the following. A MIDI program is made up of multiple : channels of information which are synchronized by some kind of timing : device, usually either a software or hardware synthesizer. You may already be getting my drift. A stereo MP3 : program is : made up of a maximum of 2 channels which are usually transmitted : simultaneously. In order for you to develop a MIDI program from an : MP3 : source, you would have to map out each individual instrument's part : and : enter that data into the program. That my friend, is an almost : impossibly : complicated premise. : : Now let's deal with how Jaws and MIDI programs get along. For the : most : part, they don't. If your sound card is capable of doing so, you can : get : quite a respectable reproduction from a MIDI file. But the software : on the : sound card actually reads the MIDI program and assigns different : instruments to each track or channel. Jaws will comfortably read the : titles : in on a disc containing MIDI files but it usually reads them as : "001.mid, : 002.mid" AND SO ON. Each heading represents the entire MIDI : program. : That program can contain as many as 16 channels of independent data. : Freedom Scientific has been working with the developers of MIDI : programs : like Cake Walk and MIDI PRO but up till now, they haven't given them : much : priority. I'm told that Stevy Wunder did create his own software : which was : quite effective and using that program, he wrote many songs. In one : particular album, Stevy actually played all of the parts including : drums, : bass, keyboard, horns and so forth. So, it is possible to use Jaws : or other : screen readers with a MIDI song writing software package but I have : been : trying to find one that works successfully for years. I have been a : musician for 41 years and have worked with MIDI for about 25 of those : years. I have really tried to employ software sequencers and have had : little success. Older hardware sequencers were much easier because : they had : dedicated buttons which served a specific purpose. Current Yamaha : keyboards : have a digital interface which allows you to connect the board to your : computer but at some point, Jaws just bogs down. Apparently, the : designers : use graphics which don't read with Jaws. I found that very : frustrating to : say the least. : I guess the Jaws designers aren't music lovers.
