I would say no since Jaws would not be on the boot disk. I am answering your question from the standpoint that the hard drive cannot be read at all. The hard drive that I restored was a second internal drive (D:), not the boot drive. In this case I was still able to boot the computer and bring up the backup/restore software. It would my guess that most recovery disk are going to have just enough of an operating system to get the computer booted and launch the recovery software.
