Just stick with the name brands (Seagate, Maxstor, Western Digital, etc). The market is so competitive right now that quality does not vary as much as some people would lead you to believe. One thing I would recommend is to consider off site backups. This adds an extra measure of protection. If you are backing up to an external drive that is situated on your desk right next to your computer and you have a pipe burst in that room or a fire you loose your computer and your backup. If you and your girlfriend live in different places one very simple solution is to back up your data to the external drive attached to her computer and have her do her back ups to the external drive attached to your computer. This will involve setting up a VPN over the internet but that is a quick simple thing to do. Frank Ventura, MCP
