Cool man. I haven't heard your voice in years for the catalog. Anyway, we got ours for $30 plus free shipping from eBay. the seller only had 4 left and we snapped 2 of them. Oh it was 16 GB.

How much did you pay for the 16 GB ? And yes, i still am recording
the CDs for Speak To Me, which reminds me i gotta start recording the
Spring catalog.

Hey Seth,
16 GB is reasonable since I and my wife just bought one from eBay. Ah so you
are or used to be the voice of the Speak to Me catalog? That would be cool
if you sold thumbdrives.

Just for the record, this is why i'm interested in the thumb drive for
use with the NLS player. If it is practical and works well for you
all, then i want to be selling these at Speak To Me Catalog for you.
What capacity do you think is the best to buy? What is the price that
would make it a no brainer to buy a thumb rather than a cartridge?

I just put my Kingston data traveler into the cartridge slot and it plays
fine, use book shelf to go from one book to another. You have to play
aroung
with the thumb drive at first untill you find just where it slips into
the
plug, it is about the center of the cartridge opening, after a couple of
times it is no problem.

Hi Seth,
Using the USB port on the side of the player, is fine, except,
being that the player is portable, it's very easy to damage the thumb
drive
when moving the player around.
The blank cartridge, goes into the slot in the front of the player just
as
the digital book cartridges do,
and while they do not have the storage capacity of most flash drives,
they are better protected from damage by the player itself.
It is very simple to transfer files from the computer to the cartridge.
HTH,
Rick Justice

So let me get this painfully straight. You can download to a thumb
drive and then play the downloaded file on the NLS player by putting
the thumb drive in the USB slot of the player? If that is true, then
why would anyone purchase a special purpose cartridge when you can get
a thumb drive these days for next to nothing and use it for all kinds
of other things ? Has anyone actually done that successfully?

Why don't you download BARD materials to a thumb drive or blank
cartridge? Then you don't have to wait for snail mail.

I just don't understand why they had to make the cards incompatible

Hi
I was wondering if there is any software that can play
the digital books from the National Library Service (NLS)?
It seems like the only thing I can find to play the books is
a $350 portable player. I would be just as happy if I could
play them on my computer.

God bless,
Mark
