It appears Google Mail Notifier is the right tool instead. Gmail Notifier
only alerts you by sound whenever a new mail gets into your inbox. It is
suitable in cases where you don't want to always check your mail (especially
the one of its web interface).
Just install it and run. You only need to supply your login details and
that's all. Next time you start your machine, it will check your mail
continuously.

Hi Ishe and Everyone. So Ishe, how do I get sound produced when I get
emails if I'm using Google Talk? I get a sound if someone wants to chat.
I use the client for work now with some scripts I found on the web for
Jaws. I don't sign into the email chat because it confuses the client and
I
get a lot of garbage in messages. I have Jaws 10, and can't seem to use
the
email version of chat any more, or I can't figure out how to anyway. For
a
while the email version was all I could use but then they changed it.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You can also use Mozilla Thunderbird and set it up as imop i believe it

I use that and it even gets about 99 percent of the spam emails from
gmail.
You can set this in preferences of gmail also.

Hi Joyce
You have the option of installing Gmail Notify which you can download
from
Google on your computer. Whenever a mail gets into your inbox, a sound
on
your machine is produced. You can also use Google Talk for the same
result
if you prefer it to Gmail Notify.
Alternatively, you can just set up your pop3 email client to retrieve
mail
for you from Google severs. This way, whenever a mail is retrieved, a
sound
will beep on your computer. Email clients you can use are Microsoft
Outlook
or Outlook Express.
However, you must first configure your Gmail account using its web
interface to allow forwarding and Pop handling.
I hope this is simple. Sorry for any unintentional complexity in this
explanation: feel free to seek clarification either on or off list.

Hi everyone. My work uses a partner to gmail for email now, and I
would
really like to hear a sound for incoming messages. Is there a way to
do
this? Keep it simple please--your dealing with a stupid when it comes
to
technology.
