Is your computer directly connected to the DSL modem or is there a home router between them? The home router can have wireless capabilities or just provide multiple wired Ethernet connections or both. Most, even the low cost routers include wireless.

If you do not have a router, the AT&T software would be required. The connection to the DSL modem uses the same type of Ethernet cable, but talks with a different protocol. It uses PPOE, which stands for Point to Point Over Ethernet. When installing a router, you must tell it you are wanting it to use PPOE to the modem and provide your account name / password to your ISP account. If you do not have a router, you must use their software to talk to the modem and log in.

I recommend a router for many reasons, including security!

Do you still want to keep it on the desktop? You can install it to both. If
you remove the authorization from the desktop the key vanishes. You have 3

crashing and almost wasn't able to get keys I needed.
