Well....that doesn't seem likely. But stranger things have happened! I may
try it.
I actually got Avira going over here, and it works, but the notifications
are sometimes hard to read.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] avast 6.0
Hi No I do not have a nasty piece of malware because I checked my computer
with ASA just in case and it turned up nothing.
my copy of the free eddition of avast 6.0 works well with my jaws screen
reading program but their are some people who do not think so.
but I think that is because if you did not have avast 5.0 which was
acessible with the jaws screen reading program
and your just a new user of avast 6.0 then your copy of avast will not be
acessible with Jaws.
I may be wrong and I am sure someone will correct me on that.
I think this is why my copy of avast 6.0 is acessible with jaws because I
was using avast 5.0 and in a program update, it down loaded avast 6.0

Heheh..I guess it's either that or you got a nasty piece of malware
pretending to be avast. :P
Joking aside though, how does the programme work with your screenreader? I
just trashed AVG because I was sick of not being able to control it. Got
Avira going on here now...seems decent; I didn't like the interface at
first
but now I see it's pretty sensible and very, very simple.
But I'm still not sure about it really. I'll probably end up paying for
the
AV software I really like in the end...

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Avast 6.0
Hi all this question is for any one using Avast 6.0
I was using avast 5.0 and all of a sudden I looked at the Main screen of
the avast program and it said I was using avast 6.0
a while back I remember a screen saying I had successfully installed
avast
6.0 in one of the program updates but I was under the impression that
when
the web site switched from 5.0 to 6.0 you had to go to the web site and
down load it.
so my question does the free eddition of avast automatically switch
from
avast 5.0 to 6.0in a program update?
because mine did.
hope there is someone out their who can tell me.
