I have used Sygate for probably close to 10 years but have run into
issues with it lately that uninstalling and reinstalling did not fix.
Besides that, sygate is not designed to run on win7.
Under which operating ssystem were or are you running it?

I do use a router with an inbuilt firewall but want the additional
security of a personal firewall to keep applications from phoning
