But this openbook animal costs $1,000.

That's interesting if not a bit troublesome to hear it is blocked out on the
Pearl camera. I don't have such an animal but I still find that strange.

Gerald,

I believe the currency recognition in Open Book only works
with old scanners. I know it is blocked out with the Pearl
Camera

None of the mainstream OCR programs like ABBYY Fine Reader
or Reading Made EZ are as comprehensive or feature-laden as
Open Book. For instance, Open Book has a currency
identification feature and a photo copying feature, neither
of which are available in mainstream OCR programs.

Becky,

Does this program do everything that openbook does?

Hello.
Before you decide on a scanning program, check out

http://www.readingmadeez.com/products/TextClonerPro.html
I've been using it for several years. It does the job
quite nicely for me
and at a fraction of the cost of other programs. Cost is
$99.95 and you
can

download a trial version to check out.

Hello everyone.

Finally got a scanner for the first time in years. Just
wondering if
anyone uses standard commercial OCR software (iE, not
kurzweil or
OpenBook) and which ones you feel most comfortable with?
I may shell out
for Open Book, but I'm not the only one using this
computer, and it'd be
nice if I could just acquire a standard OCR package. I
remember someone
telling me years ago that something they were using
worked well with JAWS
and possibly other screenreaders as well...may have been
FineReader, but
I

can't honestly remember. So, any experiences to share?
