Well, this add-on, free software can make the windows7 start menu look and
act a bit more like windows XP, if you want it to - and it also changes a
couple of other interface features in windows 7 to make them act a bit
more classic FWIW:

The thing is, Jacob, I'm trying not to do it that way. this computer is
for a former student of mine and though I managed to set it up the way I
want it on my windows 7 netbook, I can't seem to do it on this laptop.
I really can't say that I like windows 7, but that's me.

ON my windows7 machine, where the display theme is set to windows7
basic, from search box, if I arrow up once, and then right once, and
then down arrow a couple of times, then I can sort of find something
similar to the older windows XP start menu, if I then hit like the
letter A until it focuses on accessories, but, honestly, I generally
might just use the search box to find something specific.
