Whenever I find I don't remember how to accomplish a desired task in an application, I open the JAWS Keyboard Manager and look for the specific item I'm looking for; the next column lists the keystroke(s) that do this. It works for any well established application such Excel (of any version).

Thanks for the suggestion but I have Office 2010 with
ribbons. Your suggestion was the way I did with Office 2000.
I used to know how to do all this but with the ribbons
everything is different and I do things like this so seldom
that I forget.  Thanks again

u have to

1. select the column

2. press alt o for the format menu, arrow down to column sub
menu, press
enter

3. u will here column width ..., press enter.

4. in the edit field, type the value and press enter, your
column width
would change.

this is for office 2003
