Hi dave. You could try reinstalling the drivers. Uninstall all the plustech software and install just the drivers for the scanner. I have a scanner from plustech I'm not sure of the model but I had the best luck using the wia choice.

To do so, you would use the Settings->Scanning dialog. In that dialog, go to the Scanner Source list. Make sure that you pick a scanner source that is appropriate for the OpticBook 3800. Typically there will be two changes - one Twain, and one WIA. Typically, both will work, but depending on the scanner manufacturer one is typically a little better than the other. Press enter when you have made your selection, and try to scan a page. If one doesn't work satisfactorily, try the other scanner source. Once you have found one that works well, use Settings->Save Settings, select the Default settings file, and press enter. This makes a settings change persist beyond the current session. However, unfortunately, I only see one choice in the scanning dialog, That is, the opticbook2800twain I do not see/hear, the WIA choice. -----Original Message----- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Norman King Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2012 8:20 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] kurzweil and opticbook 3800 Hi. Use the wia driver. I never had any luck with the twain driver. It just seemed to crash when I tried to scan. -----Original Message----- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dave Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2012 4:29 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] kurzweil and opticbook 3800 Hello there; Actually the scanner is on, and the software is loaded into the system tray. Well, I did contact Kurzweil regarding the problem, However, they really didn't know the answer, They were aware this problem did exist with one of they're clients, But, they couldn't remember the work around, The answer they gave was; Hi. I had one person with this particular issue. He said he contacted plustek and they told him to disable a particular program that they were running. Unfortunately, he didn't tell me what that program was. Plustek is aware of blind users who use k1000. You might contact them and ask if there is something in the system tray that needs to be changed. I don't have the scanner myself, but only saw this once. You could also try using the WiA twain driver to see if that works since this scanner doesn't have a document feeder. If you do find out what the fix is, I would appreciate if you could let me know so I could put it into my faq. -----Original Message----- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Norman King Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2012 2:06 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] kurzweil and opticbook 3800 Hi. Make sure you turn the scanner on before starting kurzweil. I don't have any personal experience with the scanner. I would call tech support. -----Original Message----- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dave Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2012 8:17 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: [Blind-Computing] kurzweil and opticbook 3800 Hello everyone; I just have a question regarding the opticbook 3800 scanner. Ddoes anyone use this scanner, and, if so, are they're particular settings that need to be followed in order for Kurzweil to function properly? I did install the scanner on a client's computer, However, When I go into Kurzweil, And press f9 to scan, I hear scanner can'tt be found. So I went in the menus, Chose, scanning, And made sure the opticbook twain was their. Interestingly enough, if I went to the opticbook from the system tray, and chose settings, the thing would start to process the text, and then start the scan. When I went back to do another scan, it said, the opticbook is being disabled. Can anyone shed some light on this? The Impossible Is The Untried. Never Underestimate The power Of A Dream.
