hi,

shortcuts, although they do use a small amount of resources, the amount is
so small that unless your running a single core computer with under a GByte
of ram your not going to notice it, that's if all your using is shortcuts
and/or folders to sort them into.

also, having your information on your C drive is not going to slow you down
significantly, what it does do is make it far more difficult to
replace/reload the OS without wiping out your data as well, and slows that
process down.

those using a small drive or partition of a drive can fix things far faster
since they do not have to worry about destroying there data when they wipe
and reload the OS.

ssd's as expensive as they currently are, will increase boot speed even more
than anything else you have mentioned, in which case using the smaller ssd
for the OS and another larger and slower standard hard drive for your data
is quite the recommendation now a days.

take care,
inthaneelf

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the link. I abstain from putting shortcuts on the desktop, simply
because it eats up resources. Also an advice to all is that do not store all
your data in the C drive. Instead store it in any other drive. Reason for
this is your Operating System sits in the C drive. Having too many programs
or data files on this drive will slow down Windows start up or shut down,
also to a great extent the performance of your PC.

In Windows 7 you can just type in the program name in the search box and
it's there for you to hit enter on it and launch it. Like for example you
would use the windows key to have the start menu opened, the focus will be
in the search edit box, just type word and this will throw up results of the
programs that have word in them, use the up and down arrow keys and locate
the program you wish to launch and hit enter to launch it. Usually it's the
first program in the search list, so not much worries.

Hi Mujtaba

Click on the link below for a list of shortcuts that you can put in a folder

on your desktop. It will help until you get more familiar with Widows7.

Thanks again for all the help you provide the list.

Sure Mike, these things are just a pain to work with at times. I am still
trying to adapt to my new Windows 7 PC. Catching up fast with it's features
and where to find what on it.

In Windows 7 the add and remove programs is totally different compared to XP
actually the whole control panel looks extremely different. I hear it gets
even more complicated in Windows 8. Any reviews out there?

Hi Mujtaba,

I was able to get that Groove thing turned off & it does not show in the
file menu list anymore so, I'm good with that. Thanks again for all your
help.
Take care.

This is a new offering from Microsoft. It is a virtual
office. You can share, edit and access all your groove files and folders
from any computer regardless of it being your computer or any network.

If you wish to know more about it you can visit:

I did not find it that exciting or of any use to me so I uninstalled it. If
you need instructions to help you do the same visit:

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Groove Folder Synchronization

Hi All,

I was in the file menu of my XP Home system when I noticed,
Groove Folder Synchronization checkbox checked in the file menu list. What
is this & what does it do?! Also, how do I uncheck it? Pressing enter or
spacebar does not uncheck it! Any advice & help will be greatly
appreciated. Thank you all very much.

Take care.
