hi cliff,

here is the notes I have that will enable your friend to handle this.
" There are two ways to solve this problem:

1. Unlock the file in the file properties in Windows Explorer before
opening the file.

2. Unprotect it once you get into Word.

Here are directions for both:

Method 1:

1. Select the file in Windows Explorer.

2. Press the context key and choose the Properties option. It will be
at the bottom of the list.

3. Press the spacebar on the Unlock button. Note when you do this
focus is left on the unlock button. You will have to use your JAWS cursor or
virtual cursor to click on the OK button.

4. Now the file won't be protected when you bring it up in the Office
application.

Method 2:

1. Open the document in Word.

2. Press Alt-f for the Office pull-down, I for Info and E for Make
Editable. This will unprotect the document. I don't know if the exact steps
are the same for other Office applications or not. If not, with a little
exploration you can find out how to do this. "

have a good day,

Subject: [Blind-Computing] View Protected files?

I sent a couple of files to a friend, as attachments.

She was unable to open them as the computer message read,

"View Protected".

I've never had this happen before.

How can my friend circumvent that code and open those attachments?
