I'm not entirely sure, but I think they might be novels that have been 
"gamefied". So instead of just reading the book, you as the player-reader make 
choices that determine how the story progresses. So a choose-your-own-adventure 
story blown up to novel length, with all the complex plots and themes of a 
novel. Or maybe a nevel turned into a choose-your-own-adventure story would be
