My dad's work in Minnesota was doing some work with developing canes for the blind. A few of them were metal sensitive or magnet sensitive, and would vibrate or beep if it came across one or the other. My dad always said he wanted to bury some magnets every ten or so feet on either side of some of the trails in the woods we used to live in, but we never got around to it. And I guess they actually do have canes that can scan things and stuff to a certain degree - don't know much on those though myself. Anyhoo, the "battery in the cane" idea just struck a cord, deep, within my heart. Sniffle sniffle, Kaiti, I loveth thee. LOL JK.

lol, OSSB and their policies. Speaking of Ohioans and thinking differently, yesterday I was observing a freshman english class, and this one kid was fascinated with how my cane worked, and he seriously asked if it had batteries. I had to try so hard not to laugh, but sometimes I wonder where people come up with some of the weird questions they ask.

Kaiti.

Ha, finger food. Reminds me of a random story...
This one time, at blind camp...LOL, had to start it that way. But anyway, I went to this camp at the Ohio State School for the Blind called Math and Movement, and one night, we had fish patties, which look a lot like chicken patties. I picked it up, because it looked perfectly stable, and this lady's all like, "Do you want some silverware?" And I, having never been there and not knowing their policy, said I didn't need it. And she goes, "That's not finger food, dear." Ermhrmhrmhrmhrmhrmhrmhrmhrmhrm? That threw me a bit. I
guess us Ohioans do things a little differently after all.

I'd have eaten the fork too. And some finger food. Erhrhrmrmrmrm? Pizza is
good, I agree with that sentiment!

Rofl rofl rofl. And knowing Emily, she was so happy to be
getting pizza, and thrilled that she didn't have to work for it,
probably gobbled it all up. (Excuse the pun). Har har.

Emily once had a sub for a helper person when she was in second
grade who
fed her pizza on a fork. I would've bitten her finger.

I haven't been asked that in a while, I get asked more how do I
write, eat,
and read. Oh I almost forgot how do I use my cane.

People ask me stuff like that all the time. like if i can walk
up the
stairs. It makes me want to kick them, but they're only trying
to be nice
i
suppose.

I'd reply, "We walk." or "Our lack of eyesight does not prohibit
our
motor

skills in any way." or even better, "How do you get around?" lol

I know I always get annoyed when people ask questions like
"Aren't they
blind? How the hell do they get around?" It's like "With their
legs?"

Hell, I'm sure people have a tendency to stare at me walking

campus,
simply because they apparently don't know how the hell I get
around, when
to
me it's almost second nature by now. And, anyway, what is the
6th form?
Or,
forms, for that matter?

do you ever find school awkward in that respect? I started a new
school
last
september and it was really hard at first. It's not so bad with
the rest
of
the 6th form, but people in the lower years still act weird
about it.

That it resonable, but I dunno I still don't really like it,
because
it just makes me feel awkward when I go to public places.

Maybe
it's
because I can't see it, but my take on it is that 9 times out of
10,
they're
just curious, especially with little kids. Granted, staring is
not very
becoming, but I really don't pay too much attention.

I hate people who stare. it makes me so mad, or people that are
rude when
we're out.
