Yeah, it works in a pinch or if you're from a land that you haven't heard of NVDA. Or maybe if you're using an app that NVDA doesn't work with but yet somehow Narrator does. Haven't run into too many of those though ...

I suppose it'd be one of those work-at-a-pinch things, then. I'll still miss Microsoft Sam, though. Sam was de bomb and things. lol ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nimer Jaber" <[email protected] To: <[email protected] Date sent: Sun, 16 Feb 2014 13:24:50 -0600 Subject: RE: [BTT] Hi all The text-to-speech is a bit laggy, which makes any task you attempt to perform slightly laggy when using the keyboard. There are quirks that I personally dislike, like the fact that you need to press a zillion hotkeys to get anything done ... but I have that dislike of the mac too. Makes browsing the web slightly less efficient than it has to be. Because it's a built-in screenreader, I imagine that updating it won't happen a whole bunch, so you're pretty much stuck with what you have. And there are less navigational elements on the web, and document editing support isn't what it should be. Otherwise it works pretty well. You can navigate tables, check your email, write a quick document, stuff like that. And touch screen support isn't bad either. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Nick Cocchiarella Sent: Sunday, February 16, 2014 10:36 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [BTT] Hi all Hmm. That's interesting that Narrator has improved so much. What are its limitations? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nimer Jaber" <[email protected] To: <[email protected] Date sent: Sun, 16 Feb 2014 08:10:53 -0600 Subject: RE: [BTT] Hi all It's similar in many ways, but some apps have that ribbon that office has, the start menu is now a start screen that is layed out in tiles that screenreaders love so very much, there exist these things called charms for getting to settings and stuff, the shut down menu is hidden with the result that it took me 30 minutes the first time to figure out where the bloody thing was (I could've shut it down using other ways but I wanted to find the menu) and lots of admin tools are even more hidden. Oh, and it supports touch screens pretty well if you have JAWS 15 or NVDA. Oh, and Narrator is vastly improved to the point where I'd put it on par with VoiceOver ... maybe a tad bit below. But I am able to get by with it as a primary screenreader now, although I don't generally do so -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Lillie Pennington Sent: Sunday, February 16, 2014 7:20 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BTT] Hi all I use 7. I'm hopeful we get some actual snow, as this fake shit we get here in Alabama that shuts down everything isn't really snow. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Nick Cocchiarella Sent: Saturday, February 15, 2014 5:12 PM To: [email protected] Subject: re: [BTT] Hi all Wait, whatever happened to your regular diet of coke and cookies?
