Hi, Monica. To be fair, what seems like an easy process to re-generate another key for the game very ends up turning into an hour project that disrupts the rest of the work day. The reason for this is that we--when I owned ESP Softworks--received requests for lost--and, even stolen.. if you can believe that--registration keys *a lot*. Sometimes, even five or more requests a day. I don't know if Josh has changed the way the key generator generates keys, but it originally often generated different keys each time for the same registration name and title because the cipher seed is randomly generated. This means that instead of just 'replacing' your original registration key, you're being given a brand new one. If Josh is using the key itself to authenticate score server stuff and as a piracy control tool, it ends up being more different to handle two separate keys in the wild. The alternative is for the developers to key lists of all our customers' original keys which, again, involves more work for us and, in the end, is *us* backing up *your* keys for you. And, trust me.. we always hear, "But, but, but.." I used to have a game called Dungeon Keeper that I loved to play over every six months or so. My son loved it, too. But, over time he ended up scratching up the CD and so it no longer works. In that case, or had I'd lost the CD, I couldn't go back to the store with a bagful of butts--as it were, although, nice thought *grin*--and, request a new CD. Bottom line is.. keep it safe and know that nothing is completely fail proof. Keeping it on the computer is probably the worst thing to do and, if you do, also Braille a backup somewhere or dymo it on the case.

I did have my keys backed up, but before I reinstalled Windows last month, I added new backups to the ones I already had. To make a long story short, it didn't record right, and I lost almost every thing I had. The computer said it was backed up, but the next day, when I started to put the stuff back on my system, there was nothing there. I should have just put my new things on a separate disk and I would not have lost my keys. There's no logical reason for this to happen, but my computer was doing many strange things that week. If I didn't have enough sense to save the keys, I'd bite the bullet, say it was my fault, and buy it again. You certainly have the right to refuse replacements, but you might consider one per game and then let that be that. ----- Original Message ----- From: Draconis Entertainment To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2005 12:51 PM Subject: Re: audyssey: thoughts on Draconis Hi MOnica and all, I don't believe we've received any messages from you. However, whether or not to offer registration key replacements is currently under consideration by Draconis management. It should be the user's responsibility to maintain backups of their keys. Few if any mainstream companies offer key replacements when the keys are not hardware bound. We should have news on the final decision regarding this in the next few weeks. However, to be fair, I've been having trouble with my wireless connection, so they may not have gotten my messages. I'm getting rid of the wireless on Thursday, but I think I'll write to them from our main computer and see what happens. As far as the changes to the games, I don't know yet. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Charles Rivard > To: audyssey gamers list ; accessible games discussion > Sent: Sunday, December 18, 2005 9:04 AM > Subject: audyssey: thoughts on Draconis > > > What do you think about the changes to the games that are now being provided by > > www.draconisentertainment.com > > Change Reaction > DynaMan > ESP WhoopAss > Monkey Business > Aliens in the Outback > ESP Pinball Classic > Pinball Xtreme > and Ten Pin Alley. > Don't mention the fact that scores cannot be sent in, because the score server is still being vastly improved and will be out in the future.
