Hi Brandon,
I seem to recall a computer game when I could see that was called Die by the 
sword. It did exactly as you are talking about. The players character  was 
third person, and the sword could be controlled with the mouse. It was 
really neat.
As a matter of fact, that game allowed you to preprogram sword movements in, 
so that you could actually invent sword styles and swings. It would probably 
be a little too much for the star wars game we are talking about, but the 
mouse sword use does work.
